History of the Push-In Ceremony
A push-in ceremony is a longstanding fire service tradition that welcomes a new piece of fire equipment into service. Dating back to the 1800s—when fire apparatus were hand-drawn or horse-drawn and needed to be physically pushed back into the station—this ceremony symbolizes teamwork, pride, and dedication. Today, firefighters and community members come together to ceremonially push the new apparatus into its bay, marking its readiness to respond to emergencies. The event honors both the heritage of the fire service and the community’s investment in public safety. Together we save lives through education, engagement and emergency services.
