PTFD Open House
The 28th Annual Open House was held on Sunday, October 12, 2025!
Hundreds of residents joined us at the station to meet our dedicated firefighters, explore our fire trucks, learn valuable life-saving skills such as hands-only CPR, how to use a fire extinguisher, and enjoy a delicious bowl of firehouse chili.
Special thanks to our community partners:
NAPD, Franklin County Sheriffs Office, Columbia Gas, AEP, Med Flight, Marburn Academy, SWACO, Central Ohio Antique Fire Apparatus Association, and the Firefighters’ Local 3850.
This annual tradition is held during National Fire Prevention Week. This years campaign is “Charge into Fire Safety: Litium-Ion Batters in Your Home,” The campaign stresses how important it is to BUY, CHARGE, and RECYCLE safely when it comes to lithium-ion batteries.
Charge into Fire Safety: 3 Steps
Buy only listed products. When buying a product that uses a lithium-ion battery look for a safety certification mark such as UL, ETL, or CSA. This means it meets important safety standards.
Charge devices safely. Always use the cords that came with the product to charge. Follow the instructions from the manufacturer. Buy new chargers from the manufacturer or one that the manufacturer has approved. Charge your device on a hard surface. Don’t overcharge your device. Unplug it or remove the battery when it’s fully charged.
Recycle batteries responsibly. Don’t throw lithium-ion batteries in the trash or regular recycling bins because they could start a fire. Recycle your device or battery at a safe battery recycling location. Visit call2recycle.org to find a recycling spot near you.
The Plain Township Fire Department wants to share these key home fire escape planning tips:
- Make sure your plan meets the needs of all your family members, including those with sensory or physical disabilities.
- Smoke alarms should be installed inside every sleeping room, outside each separate sleeping area, and on every levelof your home. Smoke alarms should be interconnected so when one sounds, they all sound.
- Know at least two ways out of every room, if possible. Make sure all doors and windows open easily.
- Have an outside meeting place a safe distance from your home where everyone should meet.
- Practice your home fire drill at least twice a year with everyone in the household, including guests. Practice at least once during the day and at night.
