Maintenance Worker – Employment Opportunity

Job Summary
Under the direction of the Maintenance Superintendent, troubleshoot and perform maintenance and repairs to ensure continued, uninterrupted functioning of the Township, including cemetery, pool, roads, and administrative offices and rental properties. Must be knowledgeable about various aspects of maintenance, construction, and repair of buildings, equipment, roads, and properties and operate a variety of equipment including trucks, mowers, and manual, power, and gas or diesel tools. Must be able to interact with a variety of people, including Township residents, administration, vendors and contractors. 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Respond to work order requests from other Township Departments and assist with routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Complete road repairs, mowing, and ice and snow removal.
  • Troubleshoot and perform a variety of repairs using skilled labor, including minor plumbing and electrical, carpentry, landscaping, and concrete and masonry work.
  • Provide routine maintenance, repairs and landscaping for all Township properties, including offices, rental properties, cemetery, and Fire Department.
  • Complete all seasonal mowing and landscaping for all Township properties.
  • Open and close graves and install monuments, as well as maintain grounds at cemetery.
  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment, including: dump trucks, front end loaders, backhoes, landscape equipment, including mowers, snow plows, salt spreaders, power and gas equipment, power tools, air compressors, and manual equipment and tools.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • 3 or more years of experience working in road, cemetery, or general maintenance or contractor position.
  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, carpentry and basic plumbing and repairs.
  • Able to operate a motor vehicle, dump truck, back hoe, front end loader, tractor, mower and various small power and hand tools and maintenance equipment.
  • Must understand and follow proper safety procedures for working with equipment and chemicals, as well as proper techniques to safely complete assigned tasks.
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent.
  • Current, unencumbered Ohio Driver’s License; will be checked annually.

Special Conditions

  • This role requires a high level of physicality, including bending, crouching, kneeling, crawling, climbing, lifting, pulling, flexibility, walking, and operating varied equipment.
  • The employee will be required to use hands to feel, handle or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear.
  • Because this position is the first line of response to ensure Township operations continue, position is frequently on-call as delegated by Maintenance Superintendent.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally required to squat, kneel, and crawl as job requires.
  • Frequently required to bend, climb, and reach above head or below shoulder level.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather, after hours, weekends, and holidays as required.

Work Schedule
This is a full-time position working 40 hours a week. The primary work schedule is 7:00 am. to 3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Irregular hours will also be required, including occasional nights, holidays, and weekends as required.

Pay: $22.00 to $24.00 hourly ($45,760 to $49,920 annually)
