Located just northeast of Columbus, Ohio in Franklin County, Plain Township is home to over 800 households and the Village of New Albany. Originally settled in 1810, Plain Township today is home to rolling farm fields, thriving businesses, quiet neighborhoods, great parks and schools, as well as some of the friendliest people you'll meet. The Township is governed by three elected Trustees who oversee all Township functions and services. The Township Administrator, who is selected by the Trustees, oversees the day to day business of the Township Government and the Township Fiscal Officer is responsible for all Township accounts and transactions.

The Plain Township Fire Department serves all areas of the Township including the Village of New Albany. The department is headquartered in the Plain Township Fire Station just north of the village center on Johnstown Road. In addition to fire and EMS services the Fire Department is responsible for fire safety and prevention efforts, including fire code enforcement, and participates in a number of community outreach and education programs.

The Township Zoning Department enforces zoning ordinances throughout the township. The Zoning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals govern all zoning amendments as well as Conditional Uses, Variances and appeals to the Zoning Resolution. The Maintenance and Roads Department maintains Township roads, facilities, and equipment. The Maintenance Department also is responsible for the Township's cemeteries including Maplewood Cemetery. The Plain Township Aquatic Center provides the community with a fun and safe place to beat the summer heat. The Aquatic Center also hosts community groups and events including the Plain Township Gators youth swimming and diving team.
